How to enable the IAM role for EKS service accounts credentials provider

You want to enable the IAM role for EKS service accounts (IRSA) credentials provider to benefit from the convenience and flexibility of providing temporary AWS security credentials via IAM roles for service accounts.

 Instructions

As an administrator, perform these steps:

  1. Complete the procedures in https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/userguide/iam-roles-for-service-accounts.html to enable IRSA

  2. Navigate to the Identity Federation for AWS connector overview table and click ‘Configure app’ in the bottom right.

  3. Ensure the IAM role for EKS service accounts credentials provider is available and check ‘Enable IAM role for EKS service accounts credentials provider’

  4. Configure an AWS Connector and select the pseudo access key [IAM role for EKS service accounts] credentials

Alternatively, you can also enable the IAM role for EC2/ECS credentials provider to provide temporary AWS security credentials on Amazon EKS via EKS Pod Identities.
